USMTS weekend pushed back to May 6-9

DALLAS, Texas—Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series and the racetracks on this weekend’s calendar have announced that the events will be postponed two weeks.

Yesterday, the event slated for today, April 22, at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., was canceled due to rain and more on the way.

Already soaked with high rainfall totals this season and an extremely high likelihood of more moisture on the way in the coming days, the shows for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday are being postponed for a couple of weeks.

“We have a lot of competitors and fans who travel an enormous amount of highway miles to attend USMTS races,” said series President Todd Staley. “We don’t want them to have the burden of likely making a long trio for nothing or, even worse, some drivers staying home and the fans not getting their money’s worth or fans staying home and drivers racing in front of less-than-packed grandstands of weather-weary fans.

“This gives everybody involved enough notice to change plans and get ready for the next go at it.”

Severe storms are forecast for Oklahoma and Northern Texas over the next couple of days, and although the forecast looks favorable for Saturday at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway, the rain expected over the next 48 hours would be enough to make the facility unsuitable for the kind of quality show that USMTS drivers and fans expect.

So, the event at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway will now take place on Wednesday, May 6, with the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, hosting the series on Thursday, May 7. On Friday, May 8, the venue will be the Ark-La-Tex Speedway and the four-day swing will wrap up on Saturday, May 9, at the Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La.

Just like before, all four events will pay $3,000 to win and award points in the Double H Bands Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

For fans in the local areas, continue to check your track’s website and social media pages. Boothill Speedway may try to run a weekly show this Saturday or Sunday, and the RPM Speedway will run both Friday and Sunday this week, weather permitting, in an attempt to make up some previous shows lost to foul weather.

Also, during the May 6-9 swing in two weeks, drivers and fans can make it a five-night endeavor as the Lonestar Speedway will be hosting a non-sanctioned special event for modifieds paying $1,000 to win and featuring NASCAR legend Ken Schrader.

Up next for the USMTS will be a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2. Friday will find the series at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Saturday’s show will feature a return to the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.
