The World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Hanson Tire Service will be a USMTS blockbuster that features a one-of-a-kind qualifying format. Drivers register to qualify on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but may also purchase a “mulligan” that allows them to qualify a second day if they aren’t satisfied with their result on the first day.
Group time trials will be staged each of the three days along with heat races and main events with drivers earning points for their performances. The highest overall points earner during the three days of qualifying will earn the pole for the Saturday's “A” Main, second most points in the middle of the front row, third most points on the outside of the front row and so on for the 18 top qualified drivers.
If a driver uses his mulligan he forfeits the points earned on the first night he raced. Saturday’s features will be lined-up “heads up” with the driver earning the most points on any one of the first three days getting the pole, and so forth. The front row of Saturday’s “A” Main could all be from Thursday night, or it may be from two or three different nights – we won’t know until the end of the program Friday night. However, we will know if a driver is on the front row if he is best in time trials, and then wins his heat and the “A” Main on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to score a perfect 766.5 points.
Saturday’s program will feature an “alphabet soup” of main events that will culminate with a 30-car starting field for the championship race that will feature a three-wide start. Nearly $100,000 has been earmarked for Saturday’s “A” Main alone, with a total purse of more than $160,000 posted for the four-day extravaganza.
To date, a record 151 different drivers from 23 different states are entered for this historic event. In addition to a whopping $20,000 going to the winner on Saturday, each of the 30 main event qualifiers will pocket a minimum of $1,500.
