Event Information: King of America Modified Nationals
United States Modified Touring Series
Inaugural King of America Modified Nationals
Wednesday-Saturday, October 19-22, 2011
Humboldt Speedway, Humboldt, Kan.
TIME TRIALS: Drivers will draw for heat races and will compete in group time trials against the other drivers in their heat race. Each time trial session will have half of the cars from each heat race and will be two laps with a green, white and checkered flag. If a driver spins and/or crashes during time trials, he/she will get no time. If a driver misses his/her group, he/she will get one lap at the end of time trials. Points will be awarded for time trials within each heat race group, with the top 6 qualifiers in each group being inverted for heat race starting position (quick time in the group will start sixth in his/her heat race).
HEAT RACES: There are no redraws after time trials. The USMTS passing points system will be used for all heat races to determine line-ups for the “B” Main Qualifiers and “A” Main Qualifier. Passing points will be added to the driver’s heat race points. Depending on the number of cars entered, 12 to 18 cars will be locked into the “A” Main Qualifier for each qualifying night. The driver with the most passing points will start on the pole of the “A” Main Qualifier, and so on.
USMTS PASSING POINTS SYSTEM: Points awarded based on heat race finish – 1. 59, 2. 55, 3. 51, 4. 47, 5. 43, 6. 39, 7. 35, 8. 31, 9. 27, 10. 23, etc. Each driver is also awarded 1.5 points for each car passed based on actual starting position and official finishing position. For instance, if a driver starts fourth and wins the heat race, that driver will earn 63.5 points.
“B” MAIN QUALIFIERS: Just like time trials and heat races, points will be awarded by finishing position in the “B” Main, so it is in the driver’s best interest to get the best finish he can to earn the most points possible for the best starting position possible in one of Saturday’s main events. Depending on the number of “B” Main Qualifiers staged, at least four cars from each “B” Main Qualifier will advance to to the “A” Main Qualifier. Advancing drivers do not keep their “B” Main Qualfiier points, but instead get their points earned in the “A” Main Qualifier.
“A” MAIN QUALIFIER: The “A” Main Qualifier will qualify 28 drivers through heat races and "B" Main Qualifiers. In addition, the two drivers with the best timed laps in time trials that did not already qualify for the “A” Main Qualfier will get provisionals and start in the 29th and 30th positions. Each driver will earn points in the “A” Main Qualifer so the higher you finish, the more points you get. Points will be added from all events (time trials, heat races and main events) for the night with the top 6 in overall points earning a spot in Saturday's “A” Main Championship. The driver with the most points from the three days will be on pole Saturday, with the rest of the 18 qualifiers also lining up in order of overall points earned. Note: Being the highest points earner on any given qualifying night does not guarantee you front row for Saturday’s championship race - just a spot in the first six rows. All ties in points will go to the driver with the best qualifying time during time trials.
