American Racer GM Dave Mateer passes away
GREENSBURG, Ind. -- David D. Mateer, general manager of Race Tires America (American Racer), passed away at his home Monday, Nov. 12. He was 58 years old.
Born in Pittsburg and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Mateer held a chemical engineering degree and was highly involved in American Racer’s dirt track racing efforts.
“My wife, Janet, and I, along with all of the rest of the extended USMTS family are deeply saddened by the loss of some a great friend of ours and the sport,” said USMTS president Todd Staley. “Dave was instrumental in developing the American Racer G60 and KK704 racing tires which brought safety and affordability back into dirt track racing, and he has been a wonderful partner to work with the past five years.
“Although his competition often copied his ideas and called them their own, nobody ever did or ever will copy his ingenuity and infectious personality. He will be missed by the racing community, and especially by all of us at the USMTS.”
Mateer was a supporter of the Westmoreland County Food Bank and the Stage Right with the Westmoreland Cultural Trust.
He is survived by his mother, Charlotte B. Mateer-Obert and her husband, Paul; his wife, Stacey R.
