World Modified Dirt Track Championship early entry deadline June 9, includes free ‘mulligan’

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- The 3rd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Bauer Built Tire and Hanson Tire Service is approaching fast, and the faster that drivers get their entry forms submitted the more money they can save.

Somebody is leaving the Land of 10,000 Lakes with a $15,000 paycheck on Saturday, July 27, but first you have to beat more than 100 of the world's best open-wheel dirt modified drivers—like-minded one-armed bandits with their eye on the prize.

The Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., will host the event Wednesday through Saturday, July 24-27, with a whopping $15,000 going to the winner and each of the 30 main event starters pocketing a minimum $1,500.

Drivers may register to qualify on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but may also purchase a “mulligan” that allows them to attempt to qualify on Friday if their first night on Wednesday or Thursday does not turn out as hoped. The cost of a mulligan is $100, but drivers that pre-enter by June 9 will get their invaluable mulligan free of charge.

Entries will be limited to 60 per night on Wednesday and Thursday, with all mulligans being used on Friday night along with new drivers that can only race on Friday and drivers who pre-entered for Friday without a mulligan.

The entry fee is $250 if received by June 9 (includes free mulligan). After that date, the entry fee is $300 if received on or before July 1. The entry fee is $350 after July 1 through July 23, and $400 if received after July 24 or at the gate on race day.

After June 9, mulligans are an additional $100 and must be included with the completed entry form. The entry form is available for download at http://usmts.com/ClientFiles/EntryForms/entry_usmts_20130724-27.pdf online.

Drivers will qualify through time trials in groups of five cars with a green-white-checkered format. The top 6 qualifiers from each group will be inverted for that heat race. Heat races will take the top 12 in passing points to the “A” Main with the remainder going to one of the “B” Mains.

Points will be awarded for time trials, heat races, “B” Mains and the “A” Main each night with the top 6 in points being locked into Saturday's “A” Main. The highest overall points earner during the first three days will earn the pole for Saturday's “A” Main, second most points in the middle of the front row, third most points on the outside of the front row and so on for the 18 qualified drivers.

Saturday's program will feature an “alphabet soup” of main events that will culminate with a 31-car starting field in the championship race. Even if a driver has some tough luck during qualifying on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, he or she still has the chance to climb the ladder of main events on Saturday to earn a spot in the finale.

The 31st starting spot will be auctioned off prior to the start of the race.

Nearly $100,000 has been earmarked for Saturday's championship main event alone, with a total purse of more than $160,000 posted for the four-day extravaganza.
