Waco too wet, USMTS eyes Devil’s Bowl Wednesday

WACO, Texas—Heavy rainfall throughout the day on Sunday and Monday has forced track officials at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway to cancel Tuesday night’s scheduled United States Modified Touring Series event.

The rugged USMTS road warriors return to action on Wednesday, June 25, when they invade the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

The track opened in 1949 in Dallas behind the Buckner Boulevard drive-in theater before moving to its current location in Mesquite in 1968.

Lanny and Beverly Edwards took over track ownership in 1972, and the Hall of Fame promoters are celebrating their 41st year of promoting the famous facility in 2013.

Spectator gates open at 6 p.m., hot laps are set for 7:15 and the green flag waves at 8.

General admission tickets are $20, seniors and youth ages 12-15 are $10, kids ages 6-11 are $2 and children ages 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.

RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Limited Mods will also be on the racing card. Mufflers are required.

The Devil’s Bowl Speedway is a high-banked, D-shaped half-mile dirt oval located 3.2 miles south of US 80 on Lawson Rd. For more information call 972-222-2421 (tickets) or 972-222-2818 (office) or visit www.devilsbowl.com online.

From there, it’s four more nights of racing to wrap up the ‘Dozens Days of Dirt’ with stops at the Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Thursday; Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, on Friday; Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., on Saturday; and Outlaw Motorsports Park in Oktaha, Okla., on Sunday.
