8th Annual USMTS Winter Nationals kicks off Thursday at Ark-La-Tex Speedway


VIVIAN, La.—The final battle of the 2014 campaign for the United States Modified Touring Series happens this Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 6-8, at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway with the running of the 8th Annual USMTS Winter Nationals.

This will be the first time that the crown jewel event will be held at Gene Boyter's 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval after staging the previous seven Winter Nationals at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.

Among the entrants expected to challenge for the checkered flag are reigning two-time USMTS national champion Rodney Sanders, Johnny and Stormy Scott, former Doug Murphrey Memorial winners Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne, nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock, 2014 USRA Modified National Champion Fito Gallardo and his son, Jake, 2010 USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes, 2014 USMTS Rookie of the Year Cade Dillard, Rick Beebe, Joe Duvall, Grant Junghans, Dustin Hyde, Chris Henigan and many more.

Racing on his home track, Henigan has captured the last two USMTS events at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway including the most recent visit on March 22.

Thursday’s main event winner will earn $2,000 while Friday’s victor will pocket $3,000 and Saturday’s finale will award $4,000 to the winner.

An open practice is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6-9 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Admission to the grandstands is free. Pit passes are $20.

On Thursday and Friday, spectator tickets are $15 and pit passes are $35. Tickets are $20 and pit passes are $40 on Saturday. Kids ages 10 and under get in for free all three days. A four-day pit pass (includes practice) will be available for $120 and a three-day pit pass is $100.

Factory Stocks and Limited Mods will also be competing all three days. Each class will pay $500 to win Thursday, $700 to win Friday and $1,000 to win Saturday.
