Myer set for return to O’Reilly USMTS Monday at Adams County Speedway

CORNING, Iowa -- Eight days ago, Tommy Myer was in an ambulance on his way to the hospital after a bad crash. Monday night, he hopes to be on his way to victory lane.

On lap 9 of the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series main event at Deer Creek Speedway last Saturday, May 28, what many fans and drivers have described as "the worst racing accident I have ever seen" took place entering turn 3 at the Spring Valley, Minn., speedplant.

At the front of the field, two cars made contact with the car of Mike Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, getting turned around in front of the charging pack. What followed was a chain reaction of full-speed cars piling into one another which resulted in 10 cars being demolished and five drivers -- Mark Noble, Lonnie Earney, Bruce Hanford, Hejna and Myer -- being transported to the hospital. Myer and three others were released the next morning. Earney is continuing to recover at St. Mary's Hospital.

"I'm still pretty sore, but we'll be back at Corning Monday," Myer said. "I don't know how I'll do, but I'll be in the car.

While his car was completely destroyed in the crash last week, Myer and his team from Blooming Prairie, Minn., will have his back-up car ready to go.

"We'll have the old blue car we had out a few weeks ago. We're ready to rock and roll," Myer concluded.

Monday's Pro-Line Buildings USMTS.com 30 at the Adams County Speedway will be race #16 for the O’Reilly USMTS stars and cars, and race #6 of Pro-Line Buildings Swing #2. A big field of cars is expected to compete on the big half-mile oval, including points leader Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, and the Series' most recent winner, Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., who trails Shryock in the points chase. Hughes is also the most recent winner at the Corning, Iowa, facility, taking the win there on Sept. 16 last year.

A lightning-fast field of 24 cars will start the Holley "A" Main, with a $2,000 top prize on the line for the winner!

Pit gates open on Monday at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5. Hot laps begin at 7 with racing at 7:30.

Adult general admission tickets are just $12, with kids (ages 6-12) $3 and children under 6 admitted FREE. Pit passes are $25.

Also on the racing card will be Pro Streets and Hobby Stocks.
