On the road again: four races, four days, three States facing O’Reilly USMTS teams


<B>WEBSTER CITY, Iowa –</B> The month of August kicks off for this week for the stars and cars of the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series with four stops in four days at four tracks in three States. More than $60,000 is up for grabs during the 96-hour stint.

The O’Reilly USMTS makes its third stop of Dirt Works Race Cars Swing #4 at the Carriker Ford Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the USMTS.com Southern Iowa Challenge at the half-mile semi-banked oval on Wednesday, Aug. 3. USRA-sanctioned Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will also be racing. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30. Grandstand tickets are $12 for adults, $3 for kids (ages 6-12) and children 5 and under are admitted FREE. The Carriker Ford Southern Iowa Speedway is located 0.5 mile west of US 63 on SR 92, then 0.3 mile north on N. I St. (at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds).

On Thursday, Aug. 4, the "Best of the Best" will have their hands full at the 1/2-mile oval at the Knox County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, Ill. Local area aces will be looking to knock off the O’Reilly USMTS road warriors in the annual Illinois Challenge presented by J&J Steel and 34 Raceway. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:45 and racing at 7. Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks will also be on the racing card. The Knox County Fairgrounds are located just south of I-74 (exit 51) on the north side of town (at the fairgrounds).

The touring teams remain in Illinois on Friday, Aug. 5, as the Quincy Raceways welcomes the O’Reilly USMTS for the first time since the 2003 season. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Illinois Shootout will be race #5 of 10 comprising Dirt Works Race Cars Swing #4. Current O’Reilly USMTS points leader and six-time defending champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa won the last race at Quincy while the 2004 event was rained out. Gates open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 with racing at 7:30. Bombers and B-Modifieds are also on tap. Quincy Raceways is located 3 miles east of Quincy on SR 104 (Broadway St.).

The four-day swing wraps up on Saturday, Aug. 6, with Dirt Works Race Cars Memphis Shootout presented by Walker Collision & Spillman Auto at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Hornets and Cruisers will also be in competition with points racing in the USRA Casey’s General Stores Championship Series. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30. The green flag flies at 7 p.m. The Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway is located 1.0 mile west of Memphis on US 136 to SR 15, then east (at the Scotland County Fairgrounds)

A lightning-fast field of 24 cars will start the Holley "A" Main each night, with at least a $2,000 top prize on the line for each of the four events, plus $200 just to start each nightcapper. The Knox County Fair event has $2,500 earmarked for the winner.
