Al Hejna sits in third with 390 points, followed by Tommy Myer (381) and Brad McEwan (370). The AFCO Challenge is comprised of the final 10 points races on the O’Reilly USMTS calendar.
This week's three events will be the sixth, seventh and eight rounds of the AFCO Challenge, with the final two races for both the AFCO Challenge and the O’Reilly USMTS national championship coming on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22, at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo.
CORNING CLINCHER FOR SHRYOCK?: With five points races remaining on the 2005 schedule, Kelly Shryock can clinch his seventh straight O’Reilly USMTS national title on Thursday with a victory at the Adams County Speedway.
Shryock has never won an O’Reilly USMTS event at the Corning, Iowa, speedplant, but the Fertile, Iowa, pilot holds a 505-point advantage over Tommy Myer in the current standings.
With a maximum of 127 possible points that can be earned at each event, even if Myer can win each of the last five O’Reilly USMTS races Shryock will simply need to take the green flag a heat race at each remaining event to secure the crown -- along with the $10,000 prize that accompanies it.
