<B>SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -–</B> With the end of the 2005 season drawing nearer for the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series, Brad McEwan's opportunities to score a victory with the series were dwindling.

Rather than waiting through a third straight winter for another shot at victory, McEwan shrugged off the title of "best driver without a win" as he captured Friday's 30-lap O’Reilly USMTS main event on opening night for the 7th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.

Ironically, McEwan's career first O’Reilly USMTS triumph came against perhaps the toughest field of Modified cars and drivers ever assembled, as 85 rigs rolled into the 3/8-mile speedplant's pit area for a shot at the $2,000 top prize.

The start of the 30-car feature race could have been a disaster for McEwan and the rest of the field as polesitter Mike Sorensen spun in front of the field on the first lap. The melee brought about a complete restart with Bob Timm of Rolling Stone, Minn., moving to the pole and McEwan inheriting the outside front row starting slot.

McEwan edged out Timm to lead the first circuit, but Timm wrestled the lead away from the Storm Lake, Iowa, pilot on lap 2. Timm paced the next 16 laps before McEwan slipped by on the outside to take the lead. Timm kept McEwan in his sights, and made one final jab to the inside of McEwan on the final turn, but had to settle for a runner-up finish.

Tony Fraise of Donnellson, Iowa, finished third, while Blooming Prairie, Minn., veterans Tommy Myer and Mark Noble rounded out the top-5 finishers.

The Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors went to Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., who raced from this 26th starting position to finish ninth.

The second night of the 7th Annual Fall Jamboree takes place on Friday with a $4,000 top prize awaiting the winner of the O’Reilly USMTS main event. Saturday's main event winner will take home $12,000.
