Shryock takes Modified checkers at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A field of 76 Modifieds on hand Friday for the second night of the three-day Capital Federal Savings Modified Shootout at Lakeside Speedway.

Seven-time O'Reilly USMTS champion Kelly Shryock had to use a "B" main to advance to the main event on Thursday, where he finished second to O'Reilly USMTS national driver Dustin Boney by inches.

Shryock left nothing to chance Friday night, finishing second in his heat to put him on the inside of row 2 in the "A" main.

From the beginning it was obvious that Shryock was out for a solid victory, and while it took him 14 laps to get by early race leader and O'Reilly USMTS national driver Kevin Stoa, once out it front Shryock never let up.

Stoa held on for second while O'Reilly USMTS national driver and AFCO Challenge points leader Dean Mahlstedt finished third.

With a second-place last night and a first-place tonight, so far this three-day show has been fruitful for the Shryock Nation.

Lakeside Speedway continues with the final and biggest race of the weekend as the WDRL Late Models invade the half-mile facility tomorrow night for the Capital Federal Savings TORA/MLRA/WDRL Late Model Shootout and Modified Shootout. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., hot laps start at 6:45 and racing starts at 7:30. General admission adult tickets are $25, kids 8-14 get in for $10 and children 7 and under are admitted free. As always, parking is free as well.
