Shryock returns to O’Reilly USMTS winners circle

BRITT, Iowa -- Kelly Shryock picked up his first O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series win of the season Sunday as he captured the main event at the 2nd Annual Ruter Farms Iowa Spring Challenge at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa.

The seven-time defending O’Reilly USMTS national champ started fourth in the 30-lap Holley "A" Main, and wasted no time getting to the front as he disposed of polesitter Dean Mahlstedt after just two laps. Shryock took command and held off a mid-race charge from Mike Wedelstadt to capture the $2,000 top prize.

Bouncing back from a hard crash the night before in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tommy Myer climbed into his Kraft modified and took the runner-up spot to record his best finish of the 2006 racing season. O’Reilly USMTS national points leader Mark Noble finished third, followed by Wedelstadt and Al Hejna.

The one-two finish by Shryock and Myer tightened up the race for the UNIJIG Builders Championship as Kraft Kar Race Cars and Skyrocket Chassis wind up in a dead heat with 54 points each.

Noble continues to hold a decisive advantage in the national points, as well as holding down the top spot in both the Western and Central Regions following this past weekend's doubleheader.

Up next for the O’Reilly USMTS will be the inaugural CasinOmaha "Double Down" Showdown at the Blackbird Bend Speedway in Onawa, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15. The event, which pays $2,000 and $3,000 to win, respectively, will be the seventh and eighth of 74 races on the 2006 O’Reilly USMTS schedule, as well as the fifth and sixth events in the highly-competitive Western Region.

For more information, call the O’Reilly USMTS headquarters at (515) 832-7944 or visit www.usmts.com online.
