One-armed bandits: O'Reilly USMTS pros mop up in local action

While the O'Reilly USMTS teams had the week off, many drivers decided to take in some special events and local racing ... bad news for the locals.

After taking home the big Money Friday night at Davenport Speedway, Kelly Shryock traveled north to Maquoketa, Iowa, for the second part of the Midwest Outlaw Modified Challenge at Jackson County Speedway.

Seven-time defending O'Reilly USMTS champ Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, out-gunned a stellar field of racers Friday night, winning the Mississippi Outlaw Modified Open held at the Davenport Speedway. Shryock took home the $2,000 top prize for the 50-lap feature win.

On Saturday, after taking home the big money on Friday night at Davenport, Shryock traveled north to Maquoketa, Iowa, for the second part of the Midwest Outlaw Modified Challenge at Jackson County Speedway. Despite starting 12th on the grid, Shryock took command after 15 laps of racing and went on to score another $2,000 victory. Other O'Reilly USMTS drivers also fared well at Maquoketa, including Dan Chapman (8th) and Josh Vinnedge (23rd).

The season-opener at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, on Saturday saw Jeremy Tibben capture his first career feature win in the NASCAR-sanctioned Modified class at the half-mile oval.

The O'Reilly USMTS will visit the Adams County Speedway on Thursday, June 22, for the 2nd Annual Corning Shootout paying $2,000 to win. The series returns to Corning on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7, for the 2nd Annual Hawkeye Clash as part of the season-ending "Hunt" to determine the O'Reilly USMTS national champion. Friday's race will pay $2,000 to win while $3,000 awaits the winner of Saturday's main event.

At the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, on Friday, Forest City's Ryan Ruter beat a pack of talented USRA pilots to take home the win at the 3/8-mile clay oval. Fellow O'Reilly USMTS regular Alan Mondus of Lakeville, Minn., scored the runner-up finish.

Mondus also scored a 10th-place finish in USRA Modified action on Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., then wrapped up his weekend with a third-place showing at the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway on Sunday.

The O'Reilly USMTS invades the Britt, Iowa, speedplant on Monday, May 29, for the $2,000-to-win Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar Memorial Day Shootout.

O'Reilly USMTS drivers recorded another 1-2 finish on Friday at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield (Iowa) Speedway. Tony Fraise of Donnellson, Iowa, took the win, followed by New Sharon, Iowa's Zack VanderBeek. On Saturday, the two drivers finished 1-2 again -- this time at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo.

The O'Reilly USMTS stars and cars will invade Bloomfield and Memphis on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, for a pair of $2,000-to-win shows as part of the Iowa-Missouri Border War. The series returns to Bloomfield and Memphis again on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 4-5, for another $2,000-to-win doubleheader. The O'Reilly USMTS season finale will see the teams return to Memphis on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4, for the 5th Annual Pepsi/Mountain Dew Mid-America Nationals.
