Xtreme Super Nationals canceled for 2006
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control, the 2nd Annual Xtreme Super Nationals scheduled for this October at the State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City has been canceled. It was officially announced Wednesday by Xtreme Promotions president Greg Moore.
"Our title race sponsor that we were counting on had to back out," Moore said. "Also, the lease rate for the speedway, high insurance rates and the cost of having the track prep cost more for those three nights, we felt it would be in the best interest for everyone involved to cancel this years event."
As many racing series and promoters of other big paying special events have already found out, the rising cost of fuel is also a contributing factor.
"We want to give a quality show for the fans and everything go as smooth as possible. Our event last year was very successful. It set the bar very high for the type of event I want to produce. We are now actively looking to secure an event sponsor, have backup plans in place and are planning on bringing back the Xtreme Super Nationals in 2007."
This year's event was to be sanctioned by the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series. Last year, over 100 drivers from throughout the Midwest competed in the inaugural event which saw Springfield, Mo.'s Terry Phillips pass race long leader Kelly Shryock late in the race to pick up the $25,000 first-place prize and Xtreme Super Nationals trophy.
