Shryock snares Spring Clash cash at Quad City Raceway

E. MOLINE, Ill. – A packed house looked on Sunday night as eight-time defending O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series national champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, held off a tough field of competitors in the inaugural Spring Clash at Quad City Raceway in E. Moline, Ill., to score his second National Event win of 2007 and gain the initial points lead in the tough O’Reilly USMTS Central Region.

The win, worth $2,000, helped to pad Shryock's lead in the national rankings for 2007. Chad Kinder of Newton, Ill., finished second after chasing Shryock for most of the race, while New Sharon, Iowa's Brad Pinkerton bounced back from an early-race mishap that sent him to the rear of the field to garner a third-place paycheck. Zack VanderBeek took fourth and Steve Arpin raced from 18th on the starting grid to finish 18th at the end of the 40-lapper.

Local aces Donovan Lodge and Jeff Morris were also impressive, finishing sixth and seventh after starting 14th and 21st, respectively. The 14-position improvement earned Morris the  Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors.

Heat races were won by Richie Gustin Jr., Al Henja, Kinder, Ryan Gustin and Jay Noteboom. Despite a redraw that saw an all-Gustin front row, the pair struggled with mechanical woes and wound up 20th and 14th, respectively.

The Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains went to Pinkerton and Lodge.
