McEwan taking a break from the cockpit
STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Brad McEwan, one of the most popular competitors on the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series circuit, announced today that he is taking some time off from racing. The 2005 Rookies Rockin' Sports Bar Rookie of the Year says he's not retiring, but rather prioritizing.
"In addition to the usual things like money and time, It takes a good organization and a good crew to compete with the USMTS on a full-time basis," McEwan said. "Right now, all four of those are in need of improvement before I get back in a car. Right now, I need to focus on my family and taking care of business closer to home.
"I'm extremely grateful to all of the people who have helped me with my racing career, including Cookie's BBQ Sauce, Storm Lake Honda and, above and beyond, my family for the sacrifices that they make just like any other racing family.
"I also want to thank Bob Hass and BORCO for the opportunity to drive for them this season. Unfortunately, it didn't work out, but you know what they say about long-distance relationships."
McEwan has earned more than $100,000 during his career with the O'Reilly USMTS while finishing in the top-5 in national points at the end of both the 2005-06 seasons. While he only tasted victory lane one time, it came at a good time as he bested more than 100 others on opening night of the 2005 Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.
