Jones wins USMTS special at Cameron

CAMERON, MO (June 24, 1999) - The United States Modified Touring Series is finally in the record books here at Missouri's I-35 Speedway. The event was orginally scheduled as a two-day special for April 16 and 17 and was a victim to two more reschedulings before track officials were able to stage the event Thursday night. Ron Jones of Elk River, Minn., led the 35-lap USMTS feature from beginning to end while finishing ahead of John Allen of Chanute, Kan., to win $3,000, which represents the highest pay-off for a single event in the history of the five-year-old, three-eighths-mile dirt track. In support class action, David Pierce of Kansas City, who moved up this season from the street stock division, finished ahead of divisional points leader Travis Callawallader of St. Joseph to win his first I-35 feature in the charger class and George Burnett of Ludlow claimed the street stock feature. Action in both the charger and street stock divisions were non-points races. RESULTS USMTS MODIFIEDS First "B" feature: 1. Mark Dotson, 2. Joe Walker, 3.
