Joe Kosiski takes USMTS checkers in Deshler

DESHLER, NE (May 23, 2000) — The United States Modified Touring Series had the first three-race swing of the year in Nebraska. The first race was held on Tuesday, May 23, at the Thayer County Speedway in Deshler. Joe Kosiski Omaha, driving the Kosiski house car, showed all the modified drivers that there is more to this driver than just driving a late model. Corey Dripps jumped out into the early lead from the AFCO pole and held on for the first five circuits. Then series points leader Kelly Shryock of Story City, Iowa, found his way to the front. Shryock led almost the rest of the way until a late yellow was thrown. At the yellow, the cars lined up single-file with Kosiski right on the rear bumper of Shryock, and about five laps later took the point. The man on the move was Ron Jones from Zimmerman, Minn. Jones was all over Kosiski for the remaining five laps, but could never get by the late model hot shoe. With about four laps to go, Kosiski’s car started to overheat and started throwing out oil and water. Kosiski held on for the win and the $2,000 payday. A total of 50 cars were on hand for the racing action and a good crowd witnessed the great three- and four-wide racing. RESULTS USMTS MODIFIEDS HEAT 1 - Joe Kosiski, Kelly Shryock, Mike Spaulding, Mike Sorensen, Michael Meyer.
