EAGLE, NE (May 24, 2000) — The United States Modified Touring Series had the first three-race swing of the year in Nebraska. The second race was held on Wednesday, May 24, at the Eagle Raceway in Eagle (Lincoln). Johnny Saathoff of Beatrice proved to all that he can run with anybody as he bested the 56-car field on this very dry slick track and picked up the $2,000 paycheck.

Another local driver from the Nebraska area, Greg Metz of Washington, Kan., tooled his Jet Mod to a second place finish. That is three USMTS races for Metz and he finished in the top five at all races.

Mike Chasteen from Peoria, Ill., took home third place with John Anderson of Omaha finishing fourth. Anderson started the race from the AFCO pole.

It was announced that Gerdes Racing from Omaha would give a $1,000 bonus to any driver winning two of the three events. So this little incentive made two drivers (Joe Kosiski and Johnny Saathoff) eligible for a bonus going into the last night of action, Thursday night at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus.
