Donlinger completes weekend sweep at Cedar Lake
NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 21, 2001) - Tim Donlinger pocketed more than $4,000 this week in the USMTS winning both USMTS north region races Friday and Saturday night.
After visiting the Fox Ridge Raceway in Arcadia, the next night the series moved backed to the Cedar Lake Speedway in Somerset, Wis. The racing action was as hot as the temperature with Donlinger picking up the win again on Saturday night.
Donlinger’s work was not easy as he had a early challenge from Steve Wetzstein who did lead lap sixteen before losing that back to Donlinger. Wetzstein would have trouble later in the race and spin and finish with a fourteenth place finish.
As the race went on Craig Thatcher a regular at the speedway was working all different line trying to catch Donlinger. By lap 34 Thatcher had pulled on the bumper of Donlinger, but needed possibly one more lap to have a chance to win the race.
Les Duellman who started the race from the sixth row worked his way to a third place finish.
Rounding out the top five was Mark Noble and Bob Timm. Harris Auto Racing heat races were won by Donlinger, Noble, Tommy Myer, Corey Dripps, and Bob Timm. The Midwest Motorsports B-mains were won by Mike Chasteen and Trent Follmer.
Forty-five cars checked in for the racing with a very good crowd watching the action.
The next race for the USMTS will be the Darrell Vice Benefit starting at the Farmer City Speedway in Farmer City, Ill., on Tuesday, July 31. Darrell is the twelve year old boy that was paralyzed when burglars broke into his home stabbing and murdering his father in doing so also stabbing Darrell. USMTS will be taking money and giving to Darrell at all five races as these races will all be for Darrell. Darrell will be on hand with us on Wednesday in Knoxville, IL and Thursday at Aledo, IL.
The series will then move to Quincy, IL on Friday and Memphis, MO on Saturday. Each race will pay $2,000 to win. These five races will all be east region point races. The next north region points race will be the Sound Room Topless 75 in Allison, IA on Tuesday August 14th. The next two nights the series will move to the Steele County Fair in Owatonna, MN for two complete shows each paying $2,000 to win. For more info on the USMTS call 515-832-7944.
