USMTS to start South Region March 1-2 at Capital Speedway


WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Feb. 19, 2002) - The United States Modified Touring Series is scheduled to get underway March 1-2 at the Capital Speedwy in Holts Summit, MO with a raindate of March 3rd. This will be the first race of the 2002 race season for the USMTS and a good field of cars is expected for this event.

Some of the top modified drivers in the USA will be on hand for this two-day event paying the winner $3000. In 2001 the USMTS made there first ever visit to the speedway and Steve Payne picked up the feature win with three local drivers finishing in the top five. Friday night the racing will get underway with hot laps at 7pm and racing at 7:30.

Also running will be the B-mods, Super Stocks, and the two-man cruisers. This will be the first race of a very tough USMTS schedule that has more than forty races scheduled for the first time in USMTS. In the case of inclement weather the USMTS will run this race on Saturday and Sunday March 2-3.

On Saturday the gates are scheduled to open at 2pm with hot laps scheduled for 4pm and racing at 4:30. If needed to run on Sunday gates will open at 11am with hot laps at 1:30 and racing at 2pm. A very good field of cars is expected with drivers from more than ten states expected for this race. Some of the expected drivers are USMTS regulars: Kelly Shryock, Jason Hughes, Tommy Myer, Mark Noble, Mike Chasteen, Tim Donlinger, Todd Klees, Rick Gustin, Ron Schreiner, Kevin Peters, Dan Daniels, John Allen, John VanDenBerg, Troy Cordes, Corey Dripps, Mark Dotson, Klint Pursley, and Johnny Bone Jr.

Fans will be able to see all the local favorites racing against all the USMTS drivers in some exciting side by side racing action. This will be the first race in the south region that will have twenty races in the USMTS southern region. Grandstand admission on Friday will be $3 for kids 6-12 and $7 for adults. On Saturday kids 6-12 will be $3 and adults will be $12.
