USMTS to race at Thunder Valley Speedway this Friday and Saturday


FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (April 1, 2002) - The United States Modified Touring Series will continue racing this weekend at the Thunder Valley Speedway in Fayetteville, AR for a two-day $3000 to win show. This will be the second weekend in a row for the USMTS as the first race of the season kicked off at Winston Speedway in Winston, MO last weekend.

A great field of 53 cars showed up for the first points race in the south region. The racing action will get underway on Friday night with hot laps at 7pm and racing at 7:30. On Friday night the Super Stocks and Factory Stocks will also be running.

These classes will run heat races and dashes to determine the top eight cars in the A-main for Saturday.

The USMTS modifieds will run heat races, B-mains, and an A-main qualifier. The top eight cars from the feature on Friday will be locked into Saturday’s A-main. All other cars will run heats, B-mains to try and get into Saturday’s A-main.

Racing will get underway with hot laps at 5:00 and racing at 5:30 pm on Saturday to give travelers the chance to get out of the speedway at a decent time. A good field of cars is expected for this event.

After the first event John Allen from Chanute, KS has a one point lead in the south region point standings.

Allen picked up the win on Friday night with Kelly Shryock picking up the win on Saturday after battling with Allen for the first 32 laps. Some of the expected drivers for this race are: John Allen, Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Dan Daniels, Marc Robe, Steve Holzkamper, Klint Pursley, Mike Chasteen, Joey Kates, Rick Wallis, Brad Green, Johnny Bone, Scott Drake, Gary Clark, Justin Boney, David Grigg, and Tim Weaver plus many more.
