Busy USMTS schedule gets even busier


WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (May 9, 2002) - The already busy month of June for the USMTS has added one more date to finish off the month of June. The United States Modified Touring Series has been working on date with track officials since the PRI show in Indy in late November.

We have finally worked out all the details and USMTS is looking very forward to the first ever visit to the Powercom Raceway Park for the Prestige Cabinets 50.

USMTS will race on Friday and Saturday June 28-29 after three races in Minnesota and Iowa the three days prior to this event. Mike Mashl with Prestige Cabinets will be the sponsor of this race that will pay $1000 on Friday night and $2000 on Saturday night. Fans will be treated to some great side by side racing with some of America’s best modified drivers on hand for the racing action.

This will be the first ever visit for the USMTS to this part of Wisconsin. Fans will see heat races, B-mains, and a 25 lap A-main on Friday that will pay $1000 to win and $100 to start. The top eight cars from Friday’s feature race will be locked into the Saturday A-main. All other cars will redraw for Saturday’s heat races. Fans will get to see heats, B-mains, and the 50 Lap A-main that will pay $2000 to win $200 to start. Drivers will pay one entry fee for the two days of racing.

USMTS will start this five-day swing out at the Steele County Fairgrounds in Owatonna, MN on Tuesday June 25, then move to the Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, IA, before moving back to the north to the Howard County Fair in Cresco, IA on Thursday June 27th .

USMTS has scheduled a very hectic month of June and will race twenty days out of the thirty day month.

<B>USMTS to make first ever visit to Murray County Raceway</B>

The United States Modified Touring Series will make it’s first ever appearance to the Murray County Raceway in Slayton, MN on Friday May 24 th. The United States Modified Touring Series a traveling series that tours the central United States will feature some of America’s top modified drivers doing battle at the 3/8 semi banked dirt oval in Slayton. For all the fans that have not seen a USMTS race fans will be treated to some great side by side racing that will see drivers racing three wide at times.

Fans will get to see drivers from more than eight states at this race. Some of the expected drivers will be 3-Time USMTS Champion Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Mike Chasteen, Dan Daniels, Klint Pursley, Steve Holzkamper, Luke Cochran, Mark Noble, Joey Kates, Farrel Skelton, Johnny Bone Jr., Mike Spaulding, Mike Sorensen, Jay Ihrke, Rick Gustin, Todd Klees, Jon Tesch, Corey Dripps, and Jason Krohn plus many more.

This race will be the first race in the north region and a very good field of cars is expected for this event.

Also running will be Pure Stocks, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Hot laps will get underway at 7pm with racing to follow. Tickets will be $14 for adults and $3.50 for kids 6-12. Holinka Distributing will be the sponsor for the USMTS Miller Lite 50. Fans will be treated to a 50 lap A-main for the USMTS modifieds. As is all USMTS races this race will pay the winner of the modified A-main $2000. USMTS has raced four two-day races and had three different winners. Kelly Shryock the current point leader picked up the first two wins of the season. Shryock won at Winston, MO beating John Allen. Shryock won the next weekend at Fayetteville, AR beating Johnny Bone Jr.

The series took one week off before moving to the Spoon River Speedway where Mark Noble took the $4000 paycheck while Jason Hughes master of the Humboldt Speedway took the $3000 paycheck.

Next Up for the USMTS South Region Will be the Belleville Highbanks Modified Nationals

The United States Modified Touring Series south region will have one month off before getting very busy when June gets here.

The next race for the south region will be the Belleville Highbanks in Belleville, KS on Tuesday and Wednesday June 4-5. This race will be the first race for the USMTS National Tour that will have fifteen race nights in seventeen days. The race at Belleville will be the first ever for the USMTS and drivers are looking very forward to the Belleville race which will pay Wednesdays winner $5000.

Racing will get started with hot laps at 7pm and racing get underway at 7:30 each night.

Modifieds will be the only class of cars racing at the Highbanks on June 4-5 and a good field of cars is expected for this event. Racing will start at 7:30 on Tuesday with heat races, B-mains, and the A-main qualifier that will lock in the top eight cars for the $5000 to win Wednesday main event.

Tuesday nights qualifier will pay $500 to win and will be fifteen laps. On Wednesday fans will be treated to the same kind of show as heat races, B-mains, and the $5000 main event. Belleville Motorsports will have the two seat modified on hand and will give some lucky fans the chance to go out to the fastest racetrack in the US and make five laps. Some of the top modifieds drivers in the USA will be on hand for this race.

Some of the expected drivers will be Kelly Shryock current USMTS national point leader from LeMars, IA, Tommy Myer and Mark Noble Blooming Prairie, MN, Todd Klees, Mike Sorensen, and Tim Donlinger from Rochester, MN, Arkansas and Oklahoma drivers Klint Pursley, Jason Hughes, Steve Holzkamper, Johnny Bone Jr. Kansas drivers John Allen, Dan Daniels, Joey Kates, Scott Daniels, Darrick Klima, Randy Zimmerman, Justin Folk, Justin Boney. Missouri drivers Mark Dotson, Scott Drake, Joe Walker, Dean Wray. Iowa and Nebraska drivers Corey Dripps, John VanDenBerg, Chris Spieker, Ryan Ruter, Brandon Monson, Joe Kosiski, Steve Kosiski, John Anderson, Luke Cochran, Johnny Saathoff, and Kevin Larkins. Illinois drivers Jeff Lebaube, Kevin Peters, Mike Chasteen.

Many more drivers are expected for this two-day race and we will update the pre-entry list as drivers enter.

This will be the first race of the USMTS tour that will pay $2000 to win the points for the seventeen-day swing.

USMTS will be giving away a Bob Pierce Chassis, Diamond Racing Wheels plus many more items during this swing.

On June 7-9 the series will move to the Fisher Motors Roughrider Classic in Minot, ND this race will pay $1000 Friday and Saturday and $5000 on Sunday. The series will then move back to the south with visits at the following tracks June 11-20. Denison, IA, Humboldt, KS, Wheatland, MO, Fulton, MO, Memphis, MO, Donnellson, IA, Oskaloosa, IA, Allison, IA, Racine, MN, Lansing, MN. These ten races will pay $2000 each night from Tuesday June 11 th to Thursday June 20 th.

<B>USMTS Final Stop of Memorial Weekend at Dodge County Speedway</B>

The United States Modified Touring Series will make its first appearance of 2002 to the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, MN on Sunday May 26 th.

For all the fans that have not seen a USMTS race fans will be treated to some great side by side racing that will see drivers racing three wide at times.

Fans will get to see drivers from more than eight states at this race. Some of the expected drivers will be 3-Time USMTS Champion Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Mike Chasteen, Dan Daniels, Klint Pursley, Steve Holzkamper, Luke Cochran, Mark Noble, Joey Kates, Farrel Skelton, Johnny Bone Jr., Mike Spaulding, Mike Sorensen, Jay Ihrke, Rick Gustin, Todd Klees, Steve Wetzstein, Todd Sharckey, Natan Kliwine, Jordan Stier, Todd Stinehart, Kevin Stoa, Corey Dripps, and Jason Krohn plus many more.

This race will be the third race in the north region and a very good field of cars is expected for this event. Also running will be Wissota Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Later Models, and Midwest Modifieds.

Hot laps will get underway at 4:30pm with racing to follow. Tickets will be $14 for adults and $5.00 for kids 6-12. Sun Place Tanning will be the sponsor for the USMTS Sun Place Tanning 50. Fans will be treated to a 50 lap A-main for the USMTS modifieds. As is all USMTS races this race will pay the winner of the modified A-main $2000. This will be the final night of three for the USMTS The USMTS next race will be June 4-5 at the Belleville Highbanks in Belleville, KS for a two-day $5000 to win race. The USMTS first two races of this swing was held at Murray County Raceway in Slayton, MN on Friday and Deer Creek Speedway in Racine, MN on Saturday.
