Fisher Motors Roughrider Classic up next for USMTS North Region
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (May 28, 2002) - The USMTS north region got off to a great start this Memorial Weekend with three different winners in racing action in southern Minnesota. Great fields of cars and grandstands were packed every night. On Friday night the series made its first ever appearance at the Murray County Speedway in Slayton, MN and Tim Donlinger picked up the $2000 paycheck after Tommy Myer broke with thirteen laps to go.
On Saturday, Kelly Shryock passed Todd Scharkey late in the race to pick up his third win of the season. On Sunday Scharkey redeemed himself and picked up his first ever USMTS main event.
This will be the first ever visit to Minot, ND for the USMTS and a great field of cars is expected for this event.
This will be the second race of the USMTS National Tour that will feature fifteen nights of racing in seventeen days. USMTS started the swing in Belleville, KS June 4-5 before moving to the Roughrider.
Some of the expected USMTS drivers for this race will be Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Dan Daniels, Steve Holzkamper, Mark Noble, Mike Chasteen, Klint Pursley, Joey Kates, Luke Cochran, Farrel Skelton, Phil Dixon,Tim Donlinger, Johnny Bone, Mark Dotson, Justin Boney, Jason Hughes, and Chris Spieker. Many more drivers are expected and USMTS will update the USMTS website as drivers pre-register. On Friday June 7 th and Saturday June 8 th the main event will pay $1000 to the winner. On Sunday the final day of the three-day show the winner will pocket $5000.
After three races in the north region there is a tie for the USMTS point lead between Jason Hughes and Tim Donlinger. Each driver had good weekends and each have 260 points. Joey Kates from Kansas City, KS took over third in points with 236 while Kelly Shryock sits fourth at 232.
