USMTS North Region two final stops August 31st and September 1st in Minnesota

(Aug. 26, 2002) - The United States Modified Touring Series will make two more stops this weekend in Minnesota. On Saturday night the series will make one final stop before the big Featherlite USMTS 4th Annual Fall Jamboree takes place later in September. The series has visited the Deer Creek Speedway twice this season. The first visit was back on Memorial Weekend when Kelly Shryock picked up the win. The last visit was part of the national tour and Steve Wetzstein took the top spot. The racing this weekend should be good as some new drivers should be on hand getting ready for the Featherlite USMTS Fall Jamboree. The racing will get underway on Saturday with hot laps at 6pm and racing to follow. Also running will be the Street Stocks, Midwest Mods and Super Stocks. On Sunday the series will make its final appearance of the season at the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, MN. The series has visited the Kasson track two times this season and Todd Scharkey and Chris Spieker have picked up wins. Spieker’s win was very interesting as this was his first ever visit to the speedway and led all forty laps to pick up the win. Spieker was late getting there as plans to run in Des Moines, IA were changed when the race in Iowa was rained out. Spieker did not even make hot laps. The north region for the USMTS is down to five points races left. Tommy Myer from Blooming Prairie, MN who at one time was leading the north region by more than seventy points has been struggling as of late and Kelly Shryock has taken the seventy point margin to a four point margin. After this race the Featherlite/USMTS Fall Jamboree will be the only point race left in the north region. Points will be awarded each night of the jamboree. Racing will get underway with hot laps at 5:45 and racing to follow on Sunday. The same support classes will be running on Sunday. Hope to see everyone this weekend as the USMTS season winds down. Some of the drivers expected for this swing are: Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Mark Noble, Tim Donlinger, Steve Wetzstein, Mike Chasteen, Willy Kraft, Jason Krohn, Chris Spieker, Jason Hughes, Justin Boney, Johnny Bone, Ron Schreiner, Todd Klees, Jay Ihrke, Nathan Kilwine, Corey Dripps, Kevin Pittman, Luke Cochran, and Ryan Ruter plus many more.
