Hughs wins U.S.M.T.S. race at Muskogee

MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Colcord, Oklahoma's Jason Hughes took the pole of the United States Modified Touring Series A Feature Thursday night and then proceeded to check out to a 10 car length lead. Taking the first feature win of the three night U.S.M.T.S. invasion at the Outlaw Motor Speedway.

Hughes showed that he was the car to beat from the beginning, starting beside current Outlaw Modified points leader Muskogee's Gary Andrews, and just walked away. Andrews stayed on Hughes bumper for the first two laps, but then it was all over as Hughes sprinted away. That left Andrews to battle with a charging Blooming Prairie, Minn.'s Tommy Myer, currently U.S.M.T.S. points leader, for the second spot. Myer started eight and moved his way up to the top four in just three laps, eventually taking the second spot away from Andrews after a lap nine caution gave him the leverage. Myer tried to track down the leader Hughes with the help of the caution but Hughes just proved to fast. Myers in turn had his hands full with Andrews and LeMars, Iowa's Justin Boney and Larry Campbell on his bumper as the three made it three wide coming out of turn four. Myers held on for the second spot as Andrews settled for third and Boney took fourth.

David Whittle made it four in a row, showing why he is the points leader taking the Pure Stock A-Feature win, leading nine of the 12 laps of the feature. Whittle made his move on lap four overtaking Curtis Whittle after starting ninth and making his way through the field. Curtis Whittle had stole the lead on the opening lap from pole sitter Duan Armstrong and held the top spot for the first three laps until David Whittle came knocking. Curtis Hughey tried to stay close to the leader but had to settle for second as Gene Whittle moved up to snag third and Robert Lewis took fourth.

Kevin Flock took the lead away from Randy Moses II after he spun in turn two on lap nine and the rest was history, taking the Factory Stock A Feature. Brannon Holman battled for the lead with Moses as Moses took the first eight laps but points leader Holman stayed on the leader's bumper. After Moses left Flock had to hold off Tom Snyder and Kerney Weaver for the top spot. Snyder finished up second and Weaver took third. Holman came back to take fourth.

Hot laps will begin at 6:00 PM Friday with a regular show scheduled as well as the U.S.M.T.S.. Hot laps are slated for 5:30 on Saturday with points races for the Factory Stock and Pure Stock. For more information please visit our website at www.outlawmotorspeedway.com
