USMTS set for three nights of racing action during the 4th of July Weekend


OWATONNA, Minn. -- The United States Modified Touring Series will invade the Minnesota and Northern Iowa Area Wednesday July 2nd thru Friday July 4th .

The swing will kick off at the Worthington Speedway Worthington, MN on Wednesday July 2nd . This race was to be run on Saturday June 21st before late afternoon thunderstorms came through the area and dumped more than an inch of rain at the Worthington Speedway forcing track officials to cancel the show. Promoter Sean Enfield wanted to reschedule the race and USMTS give him some dates and the one he picked was July 2nd . So the series will stop back to the speedway on Wednesday July 2nd before moving to the Steele County Fairgrounds on Thursday July 3rd .

The race at Owatonna, MN will be the second stop of the season to the speedway for the USMTS that saw 4-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock pick up the win in the first visit to the speedway. The gates for this race will open at 4:30pm with hot laps slated for 7pm and racing to follow.

Also racing will be hobby stocks, stock cars, and B-mods. The USMTS modifieds will also be on hand and will pay the winner of the Main Event $2000. This will be the final tune up before the $4000 to win modified feature event during the annual Gopher 50. On Friday the 4th of July the USMTS will make a return visit to the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, IA. USMTS visited the speedway once in 2002 and fans were treated to a great main event that saw Mike Spaulding make his way to victory lane. All normal classes will be running at Cresco on the 4th .

A big field of cars is expected for these events some of the expected drivers include: Tommy Myer, Kelly Shryock, Justin Boney, Jason Hughes, Tim Donlinger, Ron Schreiner, Mark Noble, Steve Wetzstein, Todd Klees, Bruce Hanford, Darin Walker, John VanDenBerg, Jay Ihrke, Mike Sorensen, Bob Timm, Nathan Kilwine, Doug Hillson, Nate Wasmund, plus many more. The Owatonna track was raced on June 24th and the race track was in much better shape then Memorial Weekend and fans should be treated to some great modified racing action.

All three nights will pay $2000 to the winner of the modified main event. Hope to see everyone for some great racing action at one of these racing facilities.
