$4,000 to win USMTS Knox County Fair race this Thursday


KNOXVILLE, Ill. -- The United States Modified Touring Series to visit the Knox County Fair this Thursday July 31st for the only visit of the season to the Knox County Fairgrounds. USMTS and the Knox County Fairboard moved this race from the normal Wednesday race day in the past and will have all day to work on the track to make for a better racetrack. This race should see several drivers, as this race will pay $4,000 to the winner and $300 to start the main event. Also running will be the Hobby Stocks and the Stock Cars each racing for $400 to win.

Gates will open at 5pm with hot laps slated at 6:45 and racing to follow. Draw cutoff will be 6:30 and fans USMTS will guarantee racing to be on schedule this season.

34 Raceway, IITI, Lanmark Property Advisors has sponsored this race as well as several other businesses. Hoosier Tire is also a sponsor of this race. Last season the race at Knoxville drew some of the best modifieds and more than sixty-two cars showed up for the racing action. Ron Schreiner from Hudson, WI picked up the win last season against a very tough field of modifieds. This season should be the same as some of the hotshoes of modified racing will be on hand for these five race days. The swing will start at the Spoon River Speedway on Tuesday, then move to the Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Il on Wednesday. The series will race at Knoxville, IL on Thursday before moving to the Quincy Raceway on Friday and finish up the swing at Memphis, MO on Saturday August 2nd . All the races will pay $3000 to win except Memphis, which will pay $2000 to the winner of the main event and Knoxville, which will pay $4,000.

Some of the expected drivers for Knoxville include: Tommy Myer, Kelly Shryock, Jason Hughes, Justin Boney, Dean Mahlstadt, Bruce Hanford, Willy Kraft, John VanDenBerg, Jason Krohn, Mike Spaulding, Kevin Peters, Mike Chasteen, Mark Anderson, Kirk Anderson, Butch Weisser, Jim Hibser, Dan Chapman, Craig Scott, Jeff Maher, Billy Tuckwell, Marty Thompson, Randy Mahring plus many many more.
