USMTS to visit the Dodge County Speedway this Sunday and Monday

KASSON, Minn. -- The United States Modified Touring Series will make its final appearance of the 2003 race season at the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson this Sunday August 31st and Monday September 1st. This will be the first ever two-day show at Kasson for the USMTS and if fans can remember back in May the record car count for a one day show was conquered at the Dodge County Speedway as 72 modifieds pulled into the pit area on Memorial Weekend. This race should be close to the same as drivers come up to the Southern Minnesota area for four nights with stops at Owatonna, MN on Friday and Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday. Sunday will feature a regular race night for all classes except the modifieds. Modifieds will use passing points and USMTS procedures and will pay $2000 to the winner of the Modified Main Event. Hot laps will get underway at 5:30 sharp with racing set for 6pm. On Monday Labor Day the USMTS will once again be on the card with the winner pocketing the $3000 paycheck. Also running will be the Super Stocks racing for $1000 to win. We will be running only two classes on Monday so fans can get home at a decent time as most schools will be session.

Nate Wasmund from Rochester topped a very tough field of 72 modifieds back in May and several of the same racers should be back on hand for this four-day swing. USMTS did visit the speedway last Sunday and the Fitzpatricks are doing a great job with the speedway as Steve Wetzstein started 19th and picked up the win on this night. Several grooves of racing were being used. The last stop for the USMTS saw a fifty-lap caution free race. For more information call the USMTS office at 515-832-7944 or call Jeff at 507-775-7091. Some of the expected drivers include: Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Jason Hughes, Justin Boney, Bruce Hanford, Mark Noble, Tim Donlinger, Al and Mike Hejna, Mike Chasteen, John Logue, Randy Zimmerman, Joe McBirnie, Mike Spaulding, Steve Wetzstein, Nate Wasmund, Phil Dixon, Mike Wedelstadt, Dean Mahlstedt, Mike Sorensen, Johnny Bone, Todd Klees, Bob Timm, Corey Dripps, Todd Sharkey, Rick Gustin, Jerry Young, plus many more. This will be the last four day swing of the season so chances for seeing the USMTS in 2003 is running out so be sure to see us at one of these tracks on Labor Day Weekend.
