United States Modified Touring Series set to invade the Southern Iowa Speedway April 2-3
OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Southern Iowa Speedway will be the opener for the USMTS north region Friday and Saturday April 2-3 on the historical ½ mile speedway. This will be the first race for new promoter Todd Staley and fans will not be disappointed for the season opener next weekend. A big field of cars is expected for the north region opener for the USMTS. Greiner Buildings from Washington, IA will be the sponsor of this race.
Weather permitting an open practice will be on Thursday evening. Grandstands will be free for admission on Thursday evening. All pit passes will be $15 on Thursday night.
On Friday evening hot laps will get underway at 6:45 pm with racing set for 7:15.
Saturday the racing will get underway with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6pm.
Friday night the Hobby Stocks will be racing for $300 to win with the Stock cars racing for $400 to win. No entry fee for the support classes. The USMTS modifieds will also be racing for the $2000 to win main event.
Saturday will feature the same classes with the Hobby Stocks paying $400 to win and the Stock Cars racing for $500 to win. No entry fee for either night racing for the Hobby Stocks for Stock Cars just a pit pass. We will be running USRA rules for the support classes. The modifieds will pay $4000 to win on Saturday night.
Practice will be run from 6-9:30 on Thursday evening and is open to any class of cars wanting to test and tune their cars. Gates will open at 5pm on Thursday. Friday pit gates will open at 4:30 with the grandstand opening at 5:30. Saturday pit gates will open at 3pm with the grandstand opening at 4pm.
The USMTS has raced six times in 2004 and five-time national champion Kelly Shryock has been on a tear picking up wins in four of the first six races. Mark Noble and Brian Millican picked up the other wins. USMTS has been averaging more than sixty cars per race this season with seventy-six cars checking in for the racing action last weekend in Mayetta, KS. This race should see a big car count in all classes as everyone is ready for the race season to get underway.

Karpowicz, John Vandenberg, Zach Vanderbeek, Mike Wedelstadt, Julie McDermid, Mike Mashl, Brian Mullen, Al Hejna, Mike Hejna, Steve Kosiski, Ray Guss, Jason Krohn, Ron Ver Beek, Mark Elliott, Steve Wetzstein, Corey Dripps, Tony Fraise, Troy and Tim Folkerts plus many more.
This will be one of the biggest events of the season for the Southern Iowa Speedway so come out early and get your seat. A full field of stock cars and hobby stocks is expected for this event and all big haulers will be parked out back so fans will be able to see the whole racetrack.
