USMTS South, North Regions to stop April 15-17 at Macon, Peoria
MACON, Ill. -- The United States Modified Touring Series is off to an incredible start this season averaging more than sixty cars per event with three great days of racing slated for the Illinois area next week Thursday thru Saturday. The USMTS south region will be up first with a stop at the always popular Macon Speedway for the 2nd Annual George Handley Memorial race on Thursday April 15th. Last season the race at Macon was very exciting as USMTS drivers pulled into the 1/5 mile speedway and was in awe at the size of the track. After all was said and done the winner on this night came from the eighth row and took the win. Justin Boney picked up the early win at the speedway with Mark Noble taking the runner-up spot.
A very good field of modifieds was on hand for the action last year and this race will be just as good. Last season rain was all around the Macon area and very cool temperatures kept race fans away, but the racing was very heated and kept fans at the edge of their seats all night.
Fans will once again be treated to some great modified action as several drivers have said they would be on hand for this race as it was a fun racy track. This race will be run under USMTS rules and all modifieds will be able to use any Hoosier A/D/H40 tire or the American Racer. The series will move to the Peoria Speedway on Friday and Saturday for two complete shows.
Also running will be Street Stocks and Hornets each night for two complete shows. This race will allow the Hoosier tires A/H40 tires or the American Racer. There was a misprint on the fliers that were sent out. This will be the tire rules at the two tracks. Last season the USMTS made one stop to the Peoria Speedway and Tommy Myer took the top spot with more than fifty cars in the pit area. Some of the expected drivers for these events include: Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Johnny Bone, Zack Vanderbeek, Al Hejna, Dean Mahlstedt, Jon Tesch, Mark Noble, Jeff Leka, Jim Leka, Billy Tuckwell, Kevin Peters, Mike Chasteen, Martin Bennett, Ryan Ruter, Craig Scott, Willy Kraft, Jason Connoyer, Denny Schwartz, Bruce Hanford, Corey Dripps, Jeff Ray, Ed Cleeton, Kyle Logue, Curtis Hartung, Aaron Burcham, Erik Bagwell, Gary Cook, Jeff Maher, Matt Taylor, Bill Gray, Eddie Martin, Tommy Weder, Milo Veloz, Marty Thompson plus many more.
