Tesch breaks through at Britt

BRITT, Iowa -- Jon Tesch of Watertown, SD who has been on a terror this season, bit has the bad luck bug get him finally got his first ever USMTS win on this Friday night. Going into the night Jon Tesch and Tommy Myer were tied for the north region point lead and Tesch would take the top spot from Myer with five laps to go enroute to his first ever win and the $2,000 paycheck.

The racing action started out with the Kevko heat races. Ryan Ruter would win heat one over Kelly Shryock from seventh, heat two would go to Adam Larson from third over Neil Eckhart from seventh. Kevko heat three would go to Mike Hejna from the front row outside over Tommy Myer from fifth, with the final heat race going to Rich Lewerke from third over Craig Christiansen form fourth.

The Harris Auto Racing B-mains would go to Rick Gustin and Mike Wedelstadt. Kelly Shryock would win the AFCO Passing Points award for this race and redraw seven. Tommy Myer would get the last frisbee left, which would be the number 1 frisbee giving him the pole for the Holley A-main with Ryan Ruter to the outside. Myer would jump into the early lead with Ryan Ruter running second. These two drivers would race side by side for a few laps before Mike Hejna would take the second spot from Ruter and try several times to get by Myer.

Hejna would have motor trouble early in the race ending his chances for his first ever USMTS win. The man on the move was Jon Tesch and John Logue. Kelly Shryock would get caught up in a crash and bring out the yellow flag sending him to the tail. Shryock would not sit there long and start working his way to the front fast and would settle with another top five finishing fifth. Myer would still be leading the race until lap thirty-one as the top two drivers was starting to get into lap traffic when the #14 GRT Jon Tesch would go around Myer on the high side in turns three and four.

Tesch would pull away from Myer finishing ahead by ten car lengths. John Logue would start tenth and finish third with Ryan Ruter taking fourth. A very good crowd witnessed the racing action on this very cool spring night with the win and dust blowing right into the crowd. USMTS would like to give a special thanks to Dan Danielson and crew for the tremendous race track. This was the smoothest track that we have seen all spring and Danielson and crew need to be recognized for it. All in all it was a good week for racing action with some decent crowds at both races for as cool as the temperatures were.

USMTS action will continue this week with three stops in Illinois with the first coming at the Macon Speedway in Macon, IL on Thursday with the final two stops happening at the Peoria Speedway in Peoria, IL on Friday and Saturday with two complete shows. Thursday and Friday will each pay $2000 with Saturday night paying $3000 to win the main event. Peoria is a north region race, but the next north region race in the area will be May 21st at the Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, WI with the series moving to Powercom Park on Saturday and Sunday of that week.
