USMTS to make Memorial Day visit to Steele County Fairgrounds
OWATONNA, Minn. -- The United States Modified Touring Series will make its second appearance of the season to the historic ½ mile speedway in Owatonna, MN this Monday May 31st Memorial Day for the Olympic Fire Protection 30.
The series visited the track back in April and the track was very racy and smooth.
The racing on Monday will get underway early with hot laps slated for 3pm and racing set for 3:30 on Monday.
Also running will be B-mods for $400 to win and Hobby Stocks/Pure Stocks for $250 to win.
The first race of the season at the Steele County Fairgrounds saw Tommy Myer pick up his first win of the season in race that was shortened two laps due to Steve Wetzstein’s accident in turn one.
This race will be part of a five-day Northern Swing for the USMTS that will start in Park Jefferson, SD on Thursday move to Slayton, MN on Friday with a stop at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN on Saturday Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, MN on Sunday.
All races will pay $2000 to the winner of the USMTS main event. Some of the top modifieds drivers in the country are expected for this event.
Last season more than forty cars checked in for the racing action and USMTS expects to be in the forty-fifty car range again this season. Some of the expected drivers include: Tommy Myer, Kelly Shryock, John Tesch, Johnny Bone, Zack Vanderbeek, Dan Bohr, Kevin Pittman, Bruce Hanford, Mike Sorensen, Bob Timm, Mark Noble, Neil Eckhart, Tim Donlinger, Jason Krohn, Jason Hughes, Corey Dripps, Jay Ihrke, Jay Poidinger, Ron Schreiner, Al and Mike Hejna, Ryan Ruter, Steve Wetzstein, Levi McGowen, Dan Bohr, Todd Stinehart, David Siercks, plus many more.

The United States Modified Touring Series has had fifteen races so far this season and Kelly Shryock leads the USMTS national points heading into the weekend racing.
Tommy Myer has taken the top spot in the USMTS north region.
After six straight rain-outs the USMTS is series is ready to get back on track before the USMTS National Tour begins on two weeks.
