Tesch and Shryock pick up wins in USMTS National Tour action in Iowa

CORNING, Iowa -- The first two races of the USMTS national tour saw two familiar faces visit victory lane with John Tesch and Kelly Shryock picking up wins in Corning, IA and Webster City, IA. Forty-five cars checked in for the racing action at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, IA on Monday night with a very good crowd witnessing some great modified action. Chris Spieker picked the front row starting spot in front of his hometown crowd, but the bad luck big would strike again for Spieker as he told USMTS officials he had a tire going down before introductions were even done. At the start of the race Spieker would drive off turn one with a front flat tire sending him to the rear. This would cross the field and John Tesch would jump into the early lead and Tommy Myer would run a close second. These two would battle for several laps before Tesch would start to pull away. The second caution would come out on lap twenty-one when Rick Gustin would go off turns 1-2. This would bunch the field back up, but no one would have anything for Tesch as he would pull away from the field and pick up his second win of the season. Some great racing was going on throughout the field on the very slick race track. USMTS would like to thank the Adams County Fairboard for a nice smooth race track. Rounding out the top five was Johnny Bone, Jason Hughes, Kelly Shryock, and Corey Dripps.

Racing action would continue on Tuesday with the series racing at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, IA for the first visit in three years. Kelly Shryock would pick up his seventh win of the season and add to his point lead and take over the top spot in the USMTS north region points. Shryock would take the lead from Johnny Bone who would end the race with rear end troubles on lap nineteen. Mike Hejna would get by Tommy Myer on lap thirty-one to finish second. Hejna would pick up a miss late in the race after his headers on one side would fall off breaking two spark plugs letting Tommy Myer and Jason Hughes battling with Hejna for second. Hughes would pass Myer at the line to bring home the third spot. Finishing fifth was Bruce Hanford. The USMTS will have a travel day before making a four-day swing through the North Dakota area with stops at Jamestown on Thursday and Mandan on Friday with two nights at the Nodak Speedway in Minot on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on the USMTS call the USMTS office at 515-832-7944.
