USMTS reschedules three shows, adds one at Lake Ozark Speedway
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Less than 24 hours after pulling the plug on Friday night's show at the Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., USMTS officials have announced make-up dates for three rained-out events and have added a new stop to the 2009 calendar.
Due to wet conditions and freezing temperatures, the program scheduled for March 13 at the Caney Valley Speedway was postponed. The USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour will now visit the 3/8-mile semi-banked oval in Caney, Kan., for the first time on Thursday, May 14. As was the case in March, NASCAR veteran Kenny Wallace will be in attendance to compete against the best of the best in dirt Modified racing.
The event will be the first of four straight nights for drivers in the Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region. Friday will find the teams at the Midway Speedway in Lebanon, Mo., Saturday at the Springfield (Mo.) Raceway and Sunday at the Monett (Mo.) Speedway.
After bowing to the will of Mother Nature on two occasions already this season, drivers and fans are hoping the third time's the charm when the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour invades the LA Raceway in La Monte, Mo., on Thursday, May 28.
That event will be followed up on Friday, May 29, with the rescheduled event at the Tri-City Speedway.
On Saturday, May 30, the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour will trek to unchartered territory again with a visit to the popular Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. The 1/3-mile semi-banked clay oval offers a 75-foot-wide racing surface, with 10 degrees of banking in the corners and 5 degrees in the straight-aways. Built in 2004, the state-of-the-art facility features seating for more than 5,000 fans, handicap parking and seating, a playground for children, MUSCO lighting and closed-circuit TV.
The USMTS was scheduled to christen the track one month after opening on June 20, 2004, but that event was (you guessed it) canceled due to inclement weather.
With the rescheduled shows and the addition of the Lake Ozark Speedway date, the total number of events for the 2009 season climbs back to 93, including 63 for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour and 32 for the USMTS Southern Series. Both tours competed at the April 3-4 event at the West Siloam Speedway.
