Shryock looks to give ‘Slider’ first victory at Heart O’ Texas Speedway

WACO, Texas – Eight-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock will climb behind the wheel of Shannon Young’s #1 Centex Motorsports powered QWIK Chassis on Sunday, May 3, to compete with the USRA Southern Limited Modifieds at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Elm Mott, Texas.

This will be Shryock's first trip to HOT Speedway and his first time in a USRA Southern Limited Modified as he pulls double-duty at the 1/3-mile clay oval near Waco as part of the inaugural event there for the USMTS Southern Series.

“I am super excited and very honored to have Kelly Shryock drive my race car,” said Young, who is better known as ‘Slider’ to race fans throughout Texas and all over the World Wide Web.

Young, 37, is a grassroots racing fan and ambassador with Muscular Dystrophy who made headlines two years ago by competing at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in an IMCA SportMod put together almost exclusively with parts and equipment donated by racing manufacturers and distributors. In addition to being a frequent blogger and message board contributor, Young also contributes to the sport by awarding his coveted Slider Racing Hard Charger Awards and doing other various projects to share his passion for the sport.

Although he pilots the car himself, Young frequently has “celebrity” drivers get behind the wheel of his SLY1 Modified. Among the drivers who have steered Young's machine over the past two seasons are Henry Witt Jr., Paul White, Kevin Sustaire, George White, B.J. Dulock, Scott Tacker, Sean Jones and Cory Tekell. With the car having recorded several top-5 finishes and a strong contender in nearly every contest, Young is hopeful that Shryock will be the first to put his car into victory lane.

On Sunday, May 3, race fans at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Elm Mott, Texas, get their first look at the stars and cars of the USMTS Southern Series, with the USRA Southern Limited Modifieds and Mini-Sprints also on the menu. Pit gates open at 3:00, grandstands open at 4:00, hot laps start at 5:30 and the racing action kicks off at 6:00.

The Heart O’ Texas Speedway is a 1/3-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.6 mile north of I-35 at Exit 343 (FM 308) on east frontage road. For more information, call 254-776-1576 or surf on over to www.heartotexspeedway.com.
