Young takes USMTS Mods at Cresco

CRESCO, Iowa -- Featherlite Trailers sponsored the Tuesday night racing special at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa. It was the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) that brought the fans to the stands, as well as the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, and Stock Cars.

First to take the track were the Hobby Stocks. Jeremy Moellers and Patty Fosaaen were the heat winners. Heat winners in the Midwest Modifieds wereTim Siercks and Dick Walters, and Kevin Bidne and Jake Ludeking brought home Stock Car heat wins. The USMTS heat wins went to John Tesch, Kelly Schryock, Zach VanderBeek, and Al Hejna.

The USMTS were back on the track next to race B Features. The top 5 drivers from these two consolations would advance to the A Feature. Corey Dripps picked up the checkered flag in the first B Feature, followed by Don Shaw, Bruce Hanford, Doug Hillson, and Todd Ihde. Tommy Myer crossed the finish line first in the second B Feature race, followed by Karl Fenske, Mark Noble, Ron Schreiner, and Brad Waits.

Cars were running 3 wide along the Cresco oval in the Hobby Stock feature race. Ben Moudry started in the third position, but after lap two, had already claimed the top spot. Shay Curtain, Jimmy Broszeit, and Steve Holthaus were not going to give up easily though. With two laps to go, the caution came out due to a broken Holthaus car. With a two lap shootout, it was anyone's race. In the end, Moudry came away with the win, followed by Broszeit, Curtain, and Jeremy Moellers.

Stock Cars were next to the track in their A Feature race. From the drop of the flag, Tory Reicks picked up the top position and kept it through numerous yellow flags, continually pulling away. On lap 13, an apparent blown motor took Reicks out of the race, making Kevin Bidne the new race leader. Another caution with just three laps remaining put the race win in anyone's hands. Bidne chose the outside groove, while Scott Bauer chose the inner line. It was back and forth during those final three laps, but when it really mattered, Bauer was ahead of Bidne by less than a bumper. That gave Bauer the win, followed by Bidne, Jake Ludeking, and Jeff Vsetecka.

Next to take the track were the Midwest Modifieds. Jerry Young started in the pole position and jumped out to the early lead. Terry Timmerman and Vince Corbin were not going to let Young get the win easily, though, as they were continually battling for that top spot. With two laps left in the race, Timmerman grabbed the second position and was looking to chase down Young. It turned out that Young was too much, as he held on to win the Feature race, leading from green to checkered. Timmerman followed behind to pick up second, followed by Corbin and Tim Siercks.

Last, but not least, to take the track were the USMTS. This forty lap feature started out with a wonderful tribute to our country, taking the twenty six cars around the track, American flags waving out their windows, to the song, "God Bless The USA". And then the action began. Kelly Schryock drew pole position and was looking to claim another win at the Cresco Speedway. Al Hejna, Shawn Ryan, and Mike Hejna were right behind him though, making Schryock's goal even harder to accomplish. No one could take their eyes off of Tommy Myer, as the hard charger of the night, starting in the fourteenth spot and moving all the way up to second, putting the pressure on Schryock. Myer, Jon Tesch, and Jason Krohn battled back and forth for that second position. As the green flag was held high, the white flag flew, and then the checkered, Schryock was the first car to the line. Schryock, the current USMTS points leader, led this race from flag to flag, picking up the win. Tesch crossed the line next, followed by Krohn and Myer.

Join us again this Friday night at the Cresco Speedway for Kid's Night. See you there!
