NASCAR stars adds sizzle to three USMTS events this week

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - As the cars and stars of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour continue to blaze a trail throughout America’s heartland this summer, fans and drivers alike can expect some added heat and some additional bright stars to light up the nights.

NASCAR stars Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace will appear at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 19, and at the Marshalltown Speedway in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Wednesday, May 20.

Both nights, the two will be signing autographs for the fans, then strapping into their own high-powered USMTS Modified to take on the best the division has to offer.

Schrader will also be appearing at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, on Thursday, May 21.

While they are best known for circling America’s superspeedways with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, both are accomplished short track racers that cut their teeth on the dirt ovals of the Midwest. They won't be looking for show up points, they'll be looking to make an appearance — in victory lane.

It was on the dirt tracks of the Midwest where Schrader’s career began. He started out driving mostly open-wheel cars and won in every division he raced, including two USAC championships. Schrader is a veteran second-generation racer, and currently appears as a television analyst on SPEED Channel. He is the owner of Ken Schrader Racing, which fields entries for himself in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Schrader is also the owner of I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.

Wallace currently works as an on-air personality for SPEED Channel on shows such as NASCAR RaceDay and NASCAR Victory Lane. He was also featured on the show NASCAR Drivers: 360 on FX. He has two brothers who are also current or former NASCAR drivers: Rusty Wallace and Mike Wallace. As a child, Wallace’s boisterous behavior earned him the nickname “Herman,” after a mischievous cartoon character named Herman the German. In 2007, Wallace was voted in by fans to compete in the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The two drivers have tasted success in the top levels of racing, and will be hoping to garner their first checkered flag with the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour this week.

Schrader will be making his 27th career start with the USMTS, where he has six top-5 and twelve top-10 finishes with a career-best of third (twice in 2008).

It will be the 22nd career start for Wallace on Tuesday night. Since recording a career-best fifth-place finish in his first USMTS race in 2007, Wallace has racked up ten additional top-10 finishes.
