Pepsi-Mt Dew Mid America Nationals season finale for USMTS


MEMPHIS, Mo. -- The season will wrap up for the United States Modified Touring Series this weekend at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo., with the return of the Pepsi-Mt Dew Mid America Nationals.

This race will feature two nights of racing action Hobby Stocks, Pony Stocks, Cruisers, B-Mods, Stock Cars and Modifieds.

A complete show will be run each night with a regular weekly payout on Friday for the Hobby Stocks, Stock Cars, and B-Mods.

The USMTS drivers will compete for the $2,000-to-win purse on Friday night with the winner of the Saturday night Holley A-main picking up the $3,000 paycheck.

This season the USMTS National title has already been won for the sixth straight year by Kelly Shryock.

The racing this weekend will feature some of the top modified drivers in a seven state area competing in Memphis, Mo., this weekend.

All the local favorites should be on hand with all the traveling drivers making the tow to Memphis. Gates will open at 5 p.m. on Friday with the first race slated for 7.

On Saturday the gates will open at 3 p.m. with the first race slated for 6.

Adults will be $12 on Friday with kid prices at $3 and pit passes $25. On Saturday adults will be $15 with kid prices set at $5. Once again pit passes will be $25.

Future races for 2004 race season will be determined at the Saturday night race. We will not be racing for sure Oct. 9 and 23. Weather permitting, we may race the final two weeks of October.

This week's racing will feature heat races, last chance races, and main events each night. The top eight drivers on Friday night will be locked into the Saturday night feature in all classes except the modifieds. The modifieds will run a complete show each night.

On Saturday night, 24 lucky fans will be eligible for the modified challenge that will pay $200 to win. We will pick 24 fans off 50/50 tickets. These fans will be picked by each driver and if their driver wins the race they will pocket the $200.

Some of the expected drivers include local favorites Tony Fraise, Jim Roach, Mark Burgtorf, Ryan Meyer, Kevin Peters, Zack Vanderbeek, Henry Delonjay, Phillip Cossell, Bob Dale, Jerry Reese, Jardin Fuller racing against some of the USMTS travelers, which include Kelly Shryock, Tommy Myer, Mark Noble, Johnny Bone, Brad Pinkerton, Mike Hughes, Bruce Hanford, Al Hejna, Jason Hughes, Dean Mahlstedt, Brad McEwan, Jon Tesch, Corey Dripps, John Allen, Mike Chasteen and many more.

More than 50 drivers are expected for this event.
