Duel in Des Moines postponed to June 22; USMTS marches into Britt Tuesday
DES MOINES, Iowa – With rain falling and more expected throughout the day, Monday's 3rd Annual Duel in Des Moines presented by Karl Chevrolet at the Iowa State Fair Speedway has been postponed to Monday, June 22.
The action for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour now moves to the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 2, for the 6th Annual Ruter Farms Iowa Spring Challenge.
This past Saturday at the Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., was the 39th straight USMTS-sanctioned main event that did not find Kelly Shryock in victory lane — the longest dry spell of his career. The drought includes 19 straight USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour events with his last victory coming in August of last year at the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, Minn.
Despite being winless in 2009, Shryock has recorded eight top-5 and fourteen top-10 finishes in eighteen starts this season as he heads to the Hancock County Speedway where the eight-time USMTS National Champion has won the last three meetings, including the most recent event at Britt on June 10, 2008.
Shryock's four career victories at HCS leads the pack, while Jason Hughes and Jon Tesch each have two wins at the track. Other former winners include Dean Mahlstedt, Al Hejna, Corey Dripps and Ron Jones, who won on July 28, 1999, during the freshman season for the United States Modified Touring Series.
Gates open at 5:00 on Tuesday with hot laps at 7:00 and racing to follow. Also on the racing card will be Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks.
The Hancock County Speedway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt oval located 1.3 miles south of US 18 on James St. (turns into Main Ave. and Diagonal and 1st), then 0.5 mile east on 220th Ave., then 0.1 mile north on Jewell Ave. (ESR).
For more information, call 641-843-3225 or 641-843-9080 on raceday, or check out the track's Official Website at www.hcspeedway.com.
Tuesday's tilt will be the sixth of the season in the Yeager Machine Upper Midwest Region and the first of five events at five racetracks in five nights.
Tue Jun 2 … Hancock County Speedway, Britt, IA (Yeager Machine Upper Midwest Region)
Wed Jun 3 … Highway 3 Raceway, Allison, IA (Central States Region)
