Shryock lands two top ten finishes in USMTS action

FERTILE, Iowa -- Current USMTS point leader and Team HTL driver Kelly Shryock, of Fertile, Iowa, scored a pair of Top Ten finishes last weekend in O’Reilly Auto Parts USMTS action at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, IA. On Friday night, Kelly made the redraw after finishing second in his heat race. The driver of the AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants / HiTechLubricants.com / Shryock Racing Components #3 Skyrocket Chassis machine rolled off seventh for the $2,000 to win main event, but quickly moved up to the fourth position. On lap six, Kelly was caught up in a chain reaction crash involving fellow competitors Corey Dripps and Willie Kraft. The car suffered a flat right front tire and Kelly was forced to head pitside for repairs. After returning from the pits, Shryock made his way from the back of the pack to finish eighth.

“We got a flat right front and it knocked the toe out about two inches,” said the defending USMTS Champion. “The car was tight getting into the corner the rest of the way.”

Kelly returned to the Hancock County Speedway the following evening for a $3,000 to win event. He finished second in his heat race again on Saturday, but had to run the B-Main after not finishing the top twelve in passing points. Shryock went on to win his B-Main event to earn a thirteenth place starting position for the main event. Kelly immediately made a strong charge to the front of the field and was up to the second spot before trying a daring high- side move for the lead on the final restart. The move did not pay off for Kelly, as he lost the second position. He wound up third at the pay window, which sent him over the $10,000 mark in season earnings on the USMTS circuit.

Shryock will bring a forty-one point lead over Jason Hughes and the rest of the USMTS competitors into the series events this weekend at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA. The ‘USMTS Iowa Spring Classic’ is on tap and will offer a $2,000 payday to the winner of Friday night’s show and a $3,000 check for Saturday’s winner.
