Shryock scores O’Reilly USMTS victory at Oskaloosa

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- On Friday night at the Carriker Ford Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, more than 50 drivers were on hand to tackle the big half-mile dirt oval on the first of two nights for the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series "Greiner Buildings Iowa Spring Classic."

In the 30-lap Holley "A" Main, defending O’Reilly USMTS champion Kelly Shryock and Corey Dripps led the feild to the drop of the green flag with Shryock taking the point. Shyrock led until lap 6 when Colcord, Okla. driver Jason Hughes took the lead. Shryock and Hughes raced side-by-side for several laps, with the last turn on the final lap deciding the outcome of the race.

Hughes dove to the low side of the track and attempted to complete the pass for the lead, but Hughes bobbled and Shryock powered back to the inside to take his third win of the O’Reilly USMTS 2005 season. Hughes took second followed by Jon Tesch of South Dakota coming from fourteenth to third and Mark Noble of Minnesota taking fourth.

Shryock pocketed $2,000 for the victory. Hughes finished second with Jon Tesch third, Mark Noble fourth and Mike Sorenson taking fifth.

The Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger Award went to Tesch.
