Featherlite Fall Jamboree Sept. 22-24 at ‘The Creek’

Featherlite Fall Jamboree Sept. 22-24 at ‘The Creek’

The Best of the Best are preparing for the 24th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree which launches Thursday, Sept. 22, and continues through the finale on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt comes to town for America’s dirt modified racing marquee event at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., and another packed house is expected.

This year’s event will feature a $3,000-to-win USRA Modified race on Thursday followed by a $5,000-to-win feature on Friday and culminating with a $12,000 top prize for Saturday’s winner of the 30-car main event that will start three-wide.

Saturday’s annual Non-Qualifiers Race will pay $2,000 to win and $250 to start for the next 30 racers that fail to make the 30-car main event.

Again this year, USRA B-Mods will be racing all three nights. With a new twist, competitors will race in twin features for $500 to win each on Thursday and Friday and then $1,500 to win Saturday’s finale. Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points are up for grabs all three nights.

More than any other racetrack, the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located in the rolling hills of Southern Minnesota will be hosting Summit USMTS Modifieds for the 120th time on Thursday, and the list of former USMTS winners at ‘The Creek’ could be the names in dirt modified racing’s half of fame.

Nine-time USMTS national champ Kelly Shryock won the first-ever contest here in 2002—his first of 10 at Deer Creek. Rodney Sanders has garnered 11 checkered flags here but both take a back seat to Jason Hughes who has a series-best 14 victories.

Ryan Gustin has seven wins while Tim Donlinger and Terry Phillips each have five, along with Brandon Davis—the track’s all-time winningest driver—and Jake O’Neil who is the two-time defending Featherlite Fall Jamboree champ.

Jason Cummins and Brad Waits have four apiece while Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek and Joey Jensen note three wins. Two-time winners include Corey Dripps, Jason Krohn, Ryan Ruter, Stormy Scott, Lucas Schott, Johnny Scott, Dustin Sorensen and Dereck Ramirez.

Drivers who have visited victory lane here one time include Mark Noble, Steve Wetzstein, Darin Walker, Tony Fraise, Dan Daniels, Chad Kinder, Mark Burgtorf, Brad McEwan, Randy Timms, Dean Mahlstedt, Tommy Myer, Mike Sorensen, Mike Spaulding, Dan Chapman, Les Duellman, Mike Hejna, Steve Arpin, Jon Tesch, Jordan Grabouski, Jeremy Payne, Craig Thatcher, Tommy Weder Jr., Jacob Bleess, Jake Timm and Jim Chisholm.

O’Neil swept the pandemic-shortened two-day weekend last year. Only Jason Hughes has swept all three days of the Featherlite Fall Jamboree. He did it in 2015.

If you can’t be there in person, witness all the action from anywhere on any device with RacinDirt. Watch live and get exclusive content on your desktop, laptop tablet or a suite of apps like Roku, Amazon Fire, iOS, Apple TV and Google Play.
