Rain pushes Featherlite Fall Jamboree to Friday-Sunday

Rain pushes Featherlite Fall Jamboree to Friday-Sunday

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Race fans that have been counting the days since last year’s thrilling Featherlite Fall Jamboree will have to wait another 24 hours to satisfy their hunger.

Opening night of the 12th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree on Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Deer Creek Speedway has been postponed due to rain.

Although Mother Nature wins this round, the weather forecast looks good for the remainder of the weekend, and three complete shows are on tap for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The practice session which was rained out Wednesday night, will be held Friday from 1-3 p.m., followed by the regularly-scheduled Friday line-up of events. The USMTS Modifieds will compete in a 35-lap feature race with $5,000 earmarked for the winner and $500 for each of the 30 starters (up from $350 last year). Gates open at 4 p.m. and the first green flag waves at 6:30.

The Fall Jamboree Golf Scramble has been moved from Friday to Saturday morning (same time and location) at the Maple Valley Golf and County Club in Rochester, followed by the regularly-scheduled Saturday program minus the Non-Qualifiers Race which will now be run on Sunday.

Saturday’s explosive event will feature the hottest dirt Modified pilots in the nation battling for one of 30 spots in the 40-lap main event that will take the green flag three cars wide and ten rows deep. Drivers will battle for a $7,000 top prize and at least $800 (up from $700 last year) just to take the green flag.

The annual Bean Bag Tournament begins earlier in the day on Saturday at 12 noon with registration at 11 a.m. near the campground. Fans can begin storming the gates on Saturday at 3 p.m. and the mud starts flying at 5:00.

Any past Featherlite Fall Jamboree Saturday night “A” Main winner gets a $1,000 bonus to win this Saturday’s “A” Main. If a new first-time winner emerges, the award will go to $2,000 for the 13th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree in 2011.

One provisional will be awarded to a past champion that fails to qualify for Saturday’s “A” Main. Past champions include Tim Donlinger, Dean Mahlstedt, Chad Kinder, Jason Hughes, Kelly Shryock, Dan Daniels, Mark Noble, Willy Kraft, Johnny Saathoff and Ron Jones. If more than one past champion fails to make Saturday's “A” Main, one driver's name will be drawn at random prior to the start of Saturday's “A” Main.

Sunday’s 30-lap USMTS Modified main event carries a $3,000 top prize and pays a minimum of $400 to each of the 30 starters (up from $300 last year). Drivers failing to qualify for Sunday’s feature race will have a chance at one of 30 spots in the Non-Qualifiers Race, which carries a $2,000 top prize and pays $400 to start (up from $300 last year). Gates will open at 2 p.m. with the first heat race slated for 4:30.

Any driver failing to make any “A” Main or Sunday’s Non-Qualifiers Race gets a $150 bonus if he or she raced all three shows.

On Friday and Saturday, breakfast will be served by the Bear Creek Lutheran Church in the hospitality area from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All proceeds benefit the Bear Creek Men’s Club. Open to all … you don’t want to miss this great home-cooked opportunity.
