About Fairmont Raceway: Construction began at the current location west of Fairmont in 1964 and work progressed in 1965 with the first event—a demolition derby—held on July 4 that year. A 5,000-seat grandstand was acquired from the Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, and was finished just before for the 100th Martin County Fair.
1966 featured the first full season of racing on Sunday nights. Jack McCorkell of Redwood Falls became the first track champion, and in 1968 the track switched to Friday nights and 1972 saw the races being held on Wednesdays before switching to Saturdays in 1973, then switching back to Fridays in 1976.
In 1984 the name was changed to Fairmont Raceway and, for a while in the late ’80s it was called Fairmont International Raceway. In 2000 a new aluminium grandstand was constructed.
The Fairmont Raceway is a USRA-sanctioned race track with five classes of cars racing in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, plus numerous special events featuring Modifieds, Late Models, Sprint Cars and more.
The last few years have seen many upgrades to both the track and concession area. With a large staff on hand to provide for an excellent racing and fan experience each and every night.
USMTS rules apply. All drivers draw for heat race starting spot each day prior to the drivers meeting. Qualifying will be done through heat race passing points and “B” Mains. Typically, the top 12 or 16 in passing points advance to the “A” Main, the top 8 redraw, and then 12 or more advance from the “B” Main(s). RACEceivers and AMB transponders mandatory and available for rent. Gear chart: fmtraceway.com/gearchart.
