Shryock leads the way in Luxemburg O’Reilly USMTS go

LUXEMBURG, Wis. -- Six-time O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, took the lead at the drop of the green and survived 10 caution periods to win the McCoy’s Harley Davidson 40 at Luxemburg Speedway Thursday night.

A total of 52 O’Reilly USMTS modifieds were on hand.

Shryock jumped into the lead and held it through three caution periods for various spins in the first five laps. Brian Mullen worked his way from 13th to fourth in the first five circuits.

When racing resumed, Shryock kept the lead and quickly closed in on lapped traffic by lap 13. The Hawkeye State hotshoe immediately built up a full straightaway advantage over Sean Jerovetz and company.

Several caution flags flew over the course of the contest, with Shryock disposing of his foes on each restart. Fellow Iowan Ryan Ruter stormed through the field from his 19th starting spot to take second in the closing laps, followed by Minnesota's Tommy Myer, South Dakota pilot Jon Tesch and Zack Vanderbeek of Iowa.

De Pere's Mike Mashl fared best of the locals, placing ninth.

The O’Reilly USMTS travels to Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, Wis. on Friday (June 24) for the fourth and final event of the Wisconsin quadrupleheader.
