O’Reilly USMTS road warriors ready for another busy two weeks

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa -- The cars and stars of the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series are gearing up for yet another big swing of races starting Tuesday, July 12, as the Midwest's Premier Dirt Series will make its debut appearance at the new Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on Tuesday night.

“We have heard from many fans and drivers that tell us what a beautiful place the Fort Dodge racetrack is,” said O’Reilly USMTS promoter Todd Staley. “This is definitely the kind of track we like to take our series to.”

After the kick off at the Mineral City Speedway, the "Best of the Best" move to the Southern Iowa Speedway on Wednesday, July 13, for the second visit of 2005 to the big half-mile oval in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The O’Reilly USMTS teams will have two nights off as the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, will host the 11th Annual Harris Auto Racing “Night of 1,000 Stars” -- a USRA-sanctioned event that will pay $2,000 to the winner of the USRA Modified main event.

The O’Reilly USMTS will be back in action on Saturday during the ever-popular Jackson Nationals at the Jackson (Minn.) Speedway. The race at Jackson will pay $2,200 to the winner. Track promoter John McCorkell has added more than $2,500 to the purse for this race.

On Sunday, July 17, the O’Reilly USMTS steamroller will make its first of two stops at the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway for the Featherlite 40. The racing this season at the Cresco Speedway has been some of the best racing in the State of Iowa, with many of the area's top Modified pilots testing the 3/8-mile speedway this season.

The O’Reilly USMTS will have two days off before another four-day swing will begin with the first night beginning at the beautiful half-mile speedway in Denison, Iowa, during the Crawford County Fair. This race will be Wednesday, July 20, and will be the ninth race of Pro-Environmental Abatement Swing #3 for the O’Reilly USMTS.

The final race of Swing #3 will challenge the touring regulars as the O’Reilly USMTS pays their first-ever visit to the tricky bullring at Interstate Speedway in Jefferson, S.D. This quarter-mile speedway will feature some great side-by-side racing, with several of the local drivers trying to show the USMTS regulars the fast way around the track.

The series will start Dirt Works Race Cars Swing #4 with the final appearance of the 2005 season at the Murray County Speedway in Slayton, Minn., on Friday, July 22. Mike Sorensen of Rochester, Minn., picked up the O’Reilly USMTS main event win back in May.

The series will finish the two-week run on Saturday, July 23, at another racetrack that is very exciting for fans -- the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, for the Featherlite/KVIK 40.

After four races in Pro-Environmental Abatement Swing #3, Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie, Minn., holds an 18-point lead over John Tesch of Watertown, S.D., with six-time O’Reilly USMTS champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, sitting back in third, 31 points behind. Since returning back from his accident at the Deer Creek Speedway in May, Myer has been on a rampage, picking up where he left off and winning the last race at the Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, Wis.

Pro-Environmental Abatement Swing #3 has produced four different winners with Tesch winning at Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Al Hejna picking up his first win in two seasons at Antigo, Wis., and Shryock winning his second straight at the Luxemburg (Wis.) Speedway.

A stout field of cars is expected during these swings and all of these tracks has been producing some great racing so far in 2005. Fans will be treated to some great Modified action as the season starts it descent into the Fall races.
