Shryock completes weekend sweep with victory at Cresco

CRESCO, Iowa -- Six-time defending O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, picked up his third win in four races with a thrilling victory at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa.

The main event started with a first-lap first-turn melee that saw Tommy Myer, Darrin Welch and Shawn Ryan suffering enough damage to their cars to send them to the pits.

From that point on, Mike Chasteen of Creve Coeur, Ill., traded blows with Shryock. In the end, Shryock held the advantage and scored his series-best ninth O’Reilly USMTS feature win of the season and pocketed the $2,000 top prize. Chasteen had to settle for the runner-up spot.

Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, finished third after starting 13th on the grid, while local favorite Kevin Pittman of Waterloo, Iowa, finished where he started, in fourth. Dean Mahlstedt of Garner, Iowa, rounded out the top five finishers.

Corey Dripps of Waterloo, Iowa, earned the Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors, coming from the 23rd starting spot to finish 10th.

Next up for the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series is a stop at the Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa, for the $2,000-to-win USMTS Western Iowa Fair Race at the lightning-fast half-mile oval on Wednesday, July 20.
