Mahlstedt continues winning ways at Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway

MEMPHIS, Mo. -- Dean Mahlstedt is becoming very accustomed to the winners circle at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo., after taking home the 30-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series victory on Friday, October 21. Also taking home feature wins on the night were Jason Rauen (USRA Stock Cars), Jim Gillenwater (USRA B-Modifieds), Jimmy Hayes (USRA Hobby Stocks), Jeremy Buss (Cruisers) and John Brown (Hornets).

The first feature of the night was the 10-lap Hornet main event, with John Brown and Cody Phillips leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Brown would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1, with Wayne Noble close behind in second. Brown went on to hold off a charge from Tyler Schulte, who started 9th, and Dennis Schulte, who started 10th, to claim his first win of 2005 at Memphis. Rounding out the top eight finishers who were locked into Saturday nights features were Noble in fourth, Rob Chase in fifth, Randy Foor in sixth, Jim Hamilton was seventh, with Phillips holding on for the final transfer spot.

Up next was the 10-lap Cruiser feature, with Jim Powell and Mike Bolander on the front row. Powell grabbed the lead on lap 1, with Bolander following in second. Powell would hold the top spot until lap 9 when Dave Hudson, who started eighth, slipped by for the lead. Hudson then tried to hold off Jeremy Buss on the final lap, but Buss slipped under him coming out of four to take the checkered flag for his first win of the season at the speedway. Powell would finish in third, Doug Fenton was fourth, Craig Spilker fifth, Bill O'Haver sixth, Bolander was seventh, with the final transferring spot going to Jon Antal.

Rodger Dresden and Bobby Greene led the field to the drop of the green in the 15-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Dresden jumping out front on lap 1. Dresden then held the top spot until lap 3, when Greene slipped under him for the lead. Greene continued to hold the lead, as Ben Moudry, who started seventh, and Jimmy Hayes, who came from 11th, were working their way towards the front. Moudry would slip under Greene on lap 11 to take the top spot, with Hayes moving in to make it a three car battle for the top spot. Hayes, who was up top, Greene, in the middle, and Moudry, on the bottom, came off of four three wide on the last lap, with Hayes edging out Moudry and Greene by inches for his first win of 2005 at Memphis. Jim Lynch came from 13th to finish in fourth, Dustin Smith charged back from a first lap spin to finish fifth, Trent Murphy came from 18th to finish in sixth, Chris Holt started 20th and finished seventh, with Brian Howerton coming home in the final transfer spot.

The 15-lap USRA B-Modified feature saw Gary Lewis and Bob Woodrow on the front row, with Woodrow moving out front on lap 1. Woodrow would hold the top spot until lap 10, when Jim Gillenwater, who started 10th, slipped under him for the lead. Gillenwater then pulled away from the field over the final five laps to claim his second win in a row at the speedway. Woodrow held on for second, Tony Dunker was third, Tommy Elston was fourth, Robbie Reed came from 12th to finish in fifth, Ron York was sixth, Logan Trueblood was seventh, with Chris Leathers coming home in the final transfer spot.

Mark Holt and Jason Rauen led the field to the drop of the green in the 18-lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Rauen grabbing the lead on lap 1. Rauen would hold off Ryan Cook and Jason Cook, who started 10th, on the final lap to pick up his first win of 2005 at Memphis. Zack VanderBeek was fourth, Brad Pinkerton was fifth, Michael Browning came from 14th to finish in sixth, Troy Alexander was seventh, with Jeff Walker coming from 24th to grab the final transfer spot.

Mahlstedt took advantage of his starting spot to jump into the lead on lap 1, with Kelly Shryock close behind in second. Mahlstedt would lead all thirty laps and held off a final challenge from Mark Burgtorf to pick up his second win in a row at the speedway, as he won the inaugural Memphis Nationals last weekend worth $5,000.
